Small Business Dialogue with Premiere Gordon Campbell

It was an interesting Monday breakfast presentation at the Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club April 19th.

Peter Brown, Terry Clark and Narges Nirumvala organized a well attended breakfast for a sold out room of Kits SMBs (Small Mid Size Business). Premiere Campbell was in politicking mode and covered a wide range of topics from aboriginal treaty to the importance of voting.

Not a lot of discussion regarding the Olympics, but enough to ensure that CoC members got the message that there is plenty of opportunity for all SMBs in the Games. In regard to 2010, Premiere Campbell spoke mainly about providing products and services for the actual event and didn't expand much on the importance of a strong trade initiative during the ramp up a few years before, plus the year of the Games and after 2010.

The trade initiative worked extremely well for SMBs in Sydney who are still realizing incredible returns. Something many SMBs don't realize is that the best opportunity for the largest percentage of businesses is directly proportional to the exposure the Olympics provides. Premiere Campbell made it clear that billions of eyes would be on us over the next seven years. The caveat is that it's one thing to have this type of visibility and another thing to leverage the momentum.

*Ed. Note: We invested over three years and a six-figure budget researching Olympic organization relationships with sponsors, contractors, suppliers, partners, etc. The results surprised us too -- mouseover below
